A treat in store....

My Uncle has been staying in Harrogate and he asked if we (my mam, sister Julie and me) would like to go to meet him and have lunch at Betty's, his treat. Well we didn't need asking twice, and before you could say Jack Robinson we dressed in our finery, jumped in the car and headed off to Harrogate.

We were served tea by a charming young man while we poured over the menu, I had pancakes with chestnut mushrooms, white wine sauce and garlic and it was delicious and for afters I had a chocolate truffle slice from the sweet trolley....ah bliss.

We were then treated to a box of choccies , I chose the rose and violet creams,  my favourites,  a Betty's cloth bag

and  some of their caramelised onion chutney to go on  welsh rarebit  for our supper.

We passed some lovely buildings on the way back to the hotel, and the hanging baskets were still flowering, I shall have to put Harrogate on my list of places to visit this Autumn, but all too soon it was time for us to leave.

A good day was had by all, thank you so much,

vanilla candles...

We had a look round Costco yesterday and I saw these flameless candles that run on a battery,

as well as an on / off switch theres a timer, so you can switch the candle on at say 7 pm and 5 hours later it switches off and then  comes on at 7pm the next evening

As the nights draw in I love candles and have them everywhere, these are ideal for the hall and landings as you can leave them on knowing they're safe and the smell of vanilla is lovely.

Squirrels....

(This is Mr Squirrel in York)

I couldn't believe it yesterday when I was washing up a gorgeous fluffy tailed squirrel was sauntering along the street, but by the time I'd got the camera out he was running across the road back towards the cemetery, I ran along (in my slippers!!) to see him but he'd dissapeared.

So I thought I'd make an Autumn display in the kitchen with my own squirrels, I got the wreath from Ikea and glued some pine cones on it, to make it look autumnal

I love this big silver acorn I got from Angel & Rose last christmas,

chubby Mr Squirrel is a painted stone,

Isn't he a handsome little chap???

I just need a few leaves and its ready.

Today's a whole year since I entered bloggyland and I love it,

Happy birthday Lemonade Kitty!!!

Collecting fir cones....

We took the dogs for a lovely walk in the old cemetery where part of it has been turned into a park, and there hiding amongst the trees was Mr Owl, isn't he a handsome chap??

There were lots of fir cones around the masive fir tree just waiting to be picked up..... by me!

Back home I put a candle in a rustic planter and filled it with fir cones

and I put a few in a glass vase and sprinkled cinnamon oil on them, they smell delicious.

Of course no walk out is complete without a cream tea, coutesy of Morrisons!!

Naughty Darcy...

I was having a quiet "5 minutes" with my book yesterday when I suddenly
thought Darcy was being very quiet!!

She'd only grabbed one of my Cath Kidston  flip flops  and bitten a piece out of the strap, I could have cried.

They're so comfy I was using them as slippers until the cold weather comes along,

so if anyone has any use for a  very grubby "flop" do let me know!!

As we live on a building site the house seems to be continually full of dust not to mention the windows, but hey I can live with it, especially as we have a whole week off work to look forward to, and the chaps are coming to lay the patio.....at last.

Bye for now,

I'm thinking Christmas....

Roger the lodgers girlfriend lives in Yarm and when he asked me for a lift to her house I jumped at the  chance as I  neeed cheering up.

I've been off work as I scratched my eyeball with a blunt eye liner pencil, ouch! and had to go to the hospital, and then I caught a bug and was violently sick so a little retail therapy was just what I needed.

First stop was Strickland and Holt where they sell their own salad dressing,

and the ingredients contain, amongst other things.....love.

In the charity shop I bought two glass candlesticks

and in the florist I spied a very natural looking garland of ivy, and some wonderful berry red candles I'm thinking Christmas here with candles in the candlesticks and the ivy twined around them, there's only 103 days till christmas!!

I also bought this tiny butter dish, it just holds enough butter  for a freshly baked scone.....

and how could I resist this lovely black and white cow.

I realy did need these lovely union jack coasters for the kitchen table,

and now I'm off to make a nice cup of tea and a read of a magazine, (which I also needed!!!)

Bye for now,
