Hi girls,
I'm on my own tonight as both men are out so I thought I'd have a "tidy up" and find places for things instead of just being dumped here and there.
I'm on my own tonight as both men are out so I thought I'd have a "tidy up" and find places for things instead of just being dumped here and there.
I found this old wine crate with Chateau Les Davids on the side in the garage, so I filled it with magazines but then I thought my (small!) collection of Ladybird books would look better in it, do you agree???
I've always loved books and when I was about 8 years old I used to spend every Saturday afternoon in the book shop choosing a Ladybird book, they cost 2/6 so I'm trying to find older books with 2/6 (12 1/2 pence in todays money) on them.
Puss in boots is in very good condition,
and" Tootles the taxi" and "The Elves and the Shoemakmaker" were my favourites followed by "The Nurse" but I've not managed to find either of these books yet.
I liked Jack and the Beanstalk but wasn't too fussy on the giant!!
One of the books I've got is called "What to look for outside a Church" and its very interesting, then there's "Things to make" and "The Wise Robin" and you should see the people and vehicles in "London" it was published in 1961 and I had a good laugh reading that one!
I think I'll pop over to e bay to let my fingers do a bit of walking and see if I can find any more books before I go up to bed with a cup of hot chocolate and this months Country Homes and Interiors magazine to browse at all the lovely homes I wish I could afford...
Sweet Dreams,
Love Lucey xx

I love Ladybid books - sadly the ones from my childhood are no more - they were read by all my 6 siblings and my mum then gave them away!
However I do have one left - the Elves & the Shoemaker - its tatty but I love it.
I've been gradually collecting some of the stories I remember loving as a child - see my last blog post ;)

Lucey,
The books look great. Puss N' Boots is my absolute favorite children's book. Who wouldn't love that handsome cat?

Love your books! What a good idea to use the crate. I really need to find a place for everything.... and stick to it! suzie xxx
The Elves and the Shoemaker was one of my faves too. Also Rumpelstiltskin and The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
What a good idea to check the price to find the age. The last one I bought was Sailing and Boating for
50p in a CS, originaly 40p in 1972!
My favourite was the old version of Cinderella, where she goes to the ball on 3 nights with a different dress for each night. These modern versions miss so many ball gown opportunities !
Happy collecting xx
What lovely memories those books bring back!! From a nicer more innocent time!!! They look great in the crate too!!!

Great Ladybird collection and they look wonderful in the crate

Good idea to put the books in the crate.
I had a few Ladybird books when I was small too:
The Wise Robin, The Nurse.
I gave my books etc to my nephew and niece when they were small then they got passed on to their younger sister and brother, then recently my sister gave me a couple of books back, one being Jack and Jill and The Old Castle Book No. 8 in a series of Jack and Jill books datred 1962, the same size as the Ladybird books, and a book called Stories Jesus Told by Betty Smith also 1962.
We used to go out on Saturdays with our parents and I would spend my pocket money on books to read or puzzle books. My sister would already have spent her pocket money on sweets!!!
Gosh I had that edition of Puss in Boots and Dick Whittington's white cat looks like my Poppy! :-) Waterstones do some fab Ladybird cover note books now.
I keep meaning to buy Piggly Plays Truant from e-bay. One of my favourites from childhood. x
