"May day dancing round the maypole"
My cousin Pauline is two years older than me and when we were younger I was in the infants and she was in the juniors, and on May day all the girls would dance round the maypole.
They all had on their prettiest dresses and shoes and danced round and round,
each girl holding onto a brightly coloured ribbon and
the ribbons were woven as they danced.
(hope you're not too dizzy!)
Just as I went into the juniors they stopped doing it and so I never got to dance round the maypole, and I was sooo upset.
Maybe I should make a maypole of my own and I can dance all day long... with my dodgy knees I don't think so!!!
This cloth belongs to sal of sals snippets, I love crinoline ladies and to see them dancing, and with all those pretty flowers, and the bright threads....I adore it.
Have a happy "May day"
Love Lucey xx

We used to do the maypole at school too!! I loved it but I never got to do the really cool stuff like the gypsy's tent because that year I was the May Queen's attendant and had to sit on the stage and look pretty!
We have a gala at a local village on Monday, where the children from the village school still do maypole dancing and they still seem to enjoy it. It's lovely when old traditions are kept alive. Love the tablecloth.
Have a good weekend.
We did maypole dancing at my junior school and everyone loved it, it was such fun.
Love the tablecloth. I have one with crinoline ladies on too but they aren't dancing around the Maypole. It was one that my grandmother started to embroider many many years ago, she passed away in 1959, and back in the late 70s or early 80s my mam told me I could have it if I wanted to finish it off. Of course I did, the printed design was somewhat faded by this time but as my gran had already started on it I just copied the bits she'd done. I still have the cloth, although it has had to be repaired as my son's hamster chewed a corner of it when he was put under the table whilst we were decorating! I was not a happy bunny.
Our local primary school still do Maypole dancing. We never did it at my school.
Enjoy May Day.
What a pretty cloth! The school where I work still does maypole dancing and morris dncing for the boys. It is such a lovely event but is held for midsummer rather then mayday.
I'd forgotten about May Day! Have seen a couple of posts about it today. What a lovely tradition. You guys are lucky having those traditions to celebrate.
