A few weeks ago we had a day trip to Beamish museum in Tyne and Wear, where there was an old fashioned street full of houses and shops.
This is the Haberdashery dept in the Coop I wanted to buy the whole shop and take it home with me!!!
Sadly it was all for show boo hoo!!
I can just about remember shops being stocked like this. Oh to be behind the counter selling all those fabrics ribbons and lace.
"A new pair of boots anyone?"
"Toot toot"
The chocolate boxes had doileys in them and the sweets were in a "poke".
Does anyone remember when biscuits were sold out of the box?
This is the grocery store in the Coop full of packets and tins and blue bags of sugar.
My dad was a butcher by trade and he employed an errand boy called Howard and when I was little Howard would sit me in the basket on the front of the bike like this one and take me to my nans house.
It was a bitterly cold day, but there was so much to see there's a school, pub, farm, trams, bandstand , and picnic areas and we enjoyed it so much we got a yearly pass so we can go in the summer and have picnics on the lawns.
We had a ride on the carousel, there was a long queue for the tea rooms so we popped into "The Sun Inn" for a pie and a pint, delicious.
Inside one of the houses the table was set for afternoon tea, there were scones, a fruit cake and real china on the table, isn't that a lovely tablecloth??
I'll leave you with this lovely piccy of the kiddies singing their little hearts out beside a massive christmas tree that was outside of a bank. Inside it was all done out with wood panelling and you could go down into the vaults. We had a wonderful time and I can't wait for the warmer weather when the farm will be open and we can see all the animals.
