199 steps later....

I must have been to Whitby hundreds of times but I've never noticed the steps leading up to the Abbey have roman numerals on them

ten...

twenty...

fifty...

180...

and so on until we reached 199 steps at the top....

and, at the top we saw the most gorgeous ladies dressed in their finest Victorian attire

loved this lady's hat it had clock faces and jet brooches pinned on it.

Some ladies had gents to escort them

you'd have to be brave to carry him on your back!!

We got chatting to this lovely couple and the lady said she got the pattern from the internet and her friend made the dress for her, isn't it gorgeous??? I could probrably manage to make the bag but never the dress, and I want one!!

I want to dress up like that and go walking the streets of Whitby and pretend I lived a hundred years ago.....

Of course these ladies and gents have to have something to travel in

how about this...

or even this....

a hearse carrying a skeleton in a glass sided coffin no less!!

For those traveling in a horse and carriage you have to have somewhere for your  horse to go

the white horse and griffin offers "good stabling".

We had a wonderful day  I think I'll book us a weekend stay in October when there's a big gothic weekend on,  of course I must have the outfit for such an occasion....or am I a bit too old???

I'm popping over to my mams now with a huge bunch of roses for mothers day,

Happy Mothers Day  Mam

Love Lucey xxx

I've only been to Whitby once or twice and did climb the steps but hadn't noticed they were numbered!!!!

Love the way all those people were dressed up and the red dress is to die for. Hope you manage to get something as lovely for your visit in October.

I love the Dracula fans that visit Whitby! Whitby is my favouritr place - I love the coffin rest that is half way up the steps! It must have been hard work carrying a coffin up those steps to the church!
